College Application Personal Essay

More often than not, I get asked business related questions from peers and followers. How do I start a blog? What did you study in college? How can I make it in such a cutthroat industry? The answers to all these questions is something I’ve taught myself over the past 6 years while creating a career in an industry that didn’t exist.

While cleaning out my closet the other day I came across my high school laptop. Dusting it off, I had anxiety over what I would find (if it would even turn on). To my surprise, amongst the many photobooth sessions and saved AIM chats, was my College Application Personal Essay. I read it out loud to Moe and Courtney and to say I had the chills would be an understatement. Read above and see for yourself..

YOU are the most inspiring woman ever, with everything you do. Everyday the first thing I do is look for your Snapchat story to see what are you wearing today because I get everything you say, about the psicology there is behind every single item we use every day. And I love you so much for inspiring a lot of young people and for inspiring a young woman from Costa Rica (me) to achieve her dreams every single day. Lots of love, to DB,IC and Moe$

LOVE IT! I often complain about how casual my college campus is, yet I do nothing to bring fashion (or self expression or creativity) back. This was a much needed call to action! Thanks for the encouragement!

To say you are an inspiration is an understatement. Reading this completely gave me the chills because you accomplished exactly what you set out to do, and more! I’ve been following you since the beginning and it’s been amazing to follow along on your journey. Meeting you a few years ago in a nightclub in Brooklyn made me respect you even more because you could not have been sweeter when you asked me my name and gave me the biggest hug! Your investment in your followers is so respectable and your authenticity beams through in everything you do – thanks for being you, lady. Here’s to living out your dream, and then some. You’re a boss! xo – Molly

Wow this was so fascinating to read. I have loads of old university applications and cover letters I could read through but I’m getting embarrassed just thinking about them… Maybe one day haha.

This is absolutely amazing. I am a senior in high school and wrote my college essay similar to yours, except your caliber of language and writing skills are unparalled. xx

    Danielle,
As an emerging Jewish fashion blogger in the throws of my senior year of high school, I relate to your college essay in more ways than one. You are such an incredible inspiration to me because I too have dreams that people write off as “pretentious.” Currently, I’m working at Jeffrey in Atlanta and attend New York fashion week every season and, whenever I doubt myself again, I’m going to look to your college essay to see how far you have come!

Danielle, this essay is so good!
I really enjoyed the reading, because what you wrote it’s something I’ve always thought about, even nowadays.
I’m really glad you shared this with us, I can’t remember exactly when I found out your blog (I think was around 2012), but since that day you inspired me (not only in the fashion), so thank you!!!
    All the best,
    Sophia
