Bond Street: Bond St. kills two birds with one stone— there’s the restaurant upstairs for when you want your dine to be intimate and a little fancy, or the bumping lounge downstairs when you want to feel trendy and loose. Both serve up the same fresh sushi and other unique Japanese fare like the big eye tuna tart with truffle oil.
Sushi Nakazawa: Also known as the “Jiro Dreams of Sushi” place. Because of that, reservations are very hard to come by, but be patient because the effort and wait is well worth it. Also it can be pricey, so we think the reservation rarity is actually a good thing. The presentation is simple yet refined, making the experience that much more memorable.
Sushi Zo: We were really excited about Sushi ZO because we were already fans of their first restaurant in LA. This is why it has already been hard to get a reservation even though it has only been open for a few months. The spot is small yet elegant. And If you are an omakase fan, consider your stomach and wallet warned because this one is 22 courses. Chef Masa really knows how to make your dining experience personal and unique.
Blue Ribbon Sushi: BRS has become an NYC sushi staple for us. This is because it is consistent, fresh, and has a wide range of traditional –yet authentic– options. The environment is cozy and relaxed. The best part? They are open LATE, as in until 2am daily. Deal-breaker.
Momoya: We were impressed by Momoya because it lacked the stuffiness that typically accompanies other top sushi spots that are just as hyped up. Its environment is hip yet comfortable, and the menu has a little something for everyone—not to mention, the crispy rice is to die for. Make sure to go early to put your name in because chances are there will be a wait and they do not take reservations.
Sushi of Gari: We love Gari because although the environment is unassuming, the sushi is surely high-quality and innovative. Go for the chef’s choice, you will not be disappointed. The best spot to sit is at the bar because there’s nothing like watching and interacting with the chef’s in action.
Sushi Seki: This is another one known for impressive omakase but the a la carte options never fail to deliver. The most notable difference between sushi here and at other restaurants is that is seems slightly sweeter, we think this is because a lot of the fish is marinated in soy sauce over night…which we love. Although it is not the most romantic spot, it is still great for dates (especially with an omakase lover). Just be sure to make a reservation.
